Tuff Paddle 2019
Cranford Tuff Paddle is not your typical team obstacle course fun run. Heck there's only one obstacle you'll need to literally navigate: The Rahway River!
Last year, 25 teams of 50 participants competed in Cranford’s inaugural Tuff Paddle event. This year, we’re bringing it back with more running, more paddling and more fun.
Teams (The admission fee is for one team of two participants!) will start at the Cranford Canoe club with a 1 mile run, down Riverside drive, through Sperry Park, across the Rahway river twice, then up the sidewalk on Springfield Ave, around Hanson Park and back to the Canoe Club. Here, teams will navigate the Rahway River upstream to McConnell park for the first portage (that means carry!). Then they will continue the Nomahegan Park turnaround point. At Nomahegan, paddlers will tie up their canoes and face a quarter-mile trail run in the park with two shallow creek crossings. Runners will then head back to their canoes and paddle downstream to McConnell Park. Here, paddlers will portage their canoes across the park and re-enter the river. Continuing downstream, they will paddle past the Cranford Canoe Club to the low-water dam at Sperry Park. Paddlers will again tie up their canoes for a quarter-mile run and river crossing. Runners will get back into their canoe and paddle to the Finish Festival located at the Cranford Canoe Club.
Participants can paddle as hard or easy as they like. Those that wish to compete may go hard, while others may choose to go at their own pace.
For those who did the race last year, you will find the course to be moderately harder, but still acceptable for reasonably fit people. Last year's winners finished in under 50 minutes. Our goal this year is 65 minutes. This year there will be a slightly longer run at the start to break up the congestion of the first canoe launch. There will be an additional portage. If possible, depending on the removal of a couple of tree snags, the canoe segment will go further upstream.
Prizes will be awarded to the fastest teams! Purchase Tickets here
